We asked the Mankind Cannabis consultants what people say regarding their experience there.

“People love the shopping experience. They appreciate that they can look at the packages and see the lab results and the percentages of THC and CBD. They can take their time, and there is always a consultant ready to answer questions.”

Many Mankind patients and members already know what works best for them and they appreciate that they can get in and out quickly, especially in the early morning hours.

A certified Bio-Feedback Specialist Bliss says, “As a Health Professional I want patients to try different types of Cannabis and take note of what works best for them as a whole. I also let them know that Sativas may be more helpful in the morning and Indicas in the evening for relaxation.” She continues, “We just filmed a great patient story about Eric, who had five major back surgeries and was on thirteen prescription medicines including opiates. It gives him immediate and consistent relief. He is now able to enjoys family outings again. So don’t hesitate to try a variety of products and find what works best for you.”

FAQ’s FOR LEGAL CANNABIS

FAQs-2

Mankind Cooperative has received a temporary license from California’s Bureau of Cannabis Control, to legally sell recreational cannabis to adults 21 years and older, which takes effect Jan. 1 2018. We have gathered common questions and answered them to help you understand the new laws and regulations as well as the changes that are in effect.

Q: Can I walk into a California dispensary on Jan. 1 to buy weed?

The short answer is yes, so long as you’re over 21 with a legal form of picture I.D.

Q: Who can purchase cannabis?

A: Age requirement of 21+ with a valid government issued picture I.D can legally purchase cannabis. Those that hold a valid medical marijuana card can be under 21 and still enter and purchase at a legal dispensary.

Q: If I am already a medical marijuana patient is my doctor’s recommendation still valid?

A: Yes, there is no change for medical marijuana card holders. However, if you are a medical patient you can get a MMIC card to be exempt from sales tax.

The MMIC identifies the cardholder as a person protected under the provisions of Prop 215 and SB 420. It is used to help law enforcement identify the cardholder as being able to legally possess certain amounts of medicine. Medical patients who have a state medical marijuana ID card will be exempt from the state sales tax immediatelyIf you spend more than $100 per month on medicine, it should pay you to get a state ID card. Under Prop 64, the card fees are capped at $100, and $50 for Medi-Cal patients.

Q: How do I get a MMIC card?
A: To apply for an MMIC card visit San Diego County’s Website Here

Q: Where can I buy recreational cannabis?

A: There are 7 licensed recreational cannabis retail shops in the city of San Diego, Mankind being one of the first and most centrally located.

Q: What are the new cannabis taxes?

A: Recreational “Adult-Use” Marijuana sales will be charged 15% state excise tax, 7.75% sales tax, and 5% municipal tax. Medical Marijuana patients with a MMIC card will be charged 15% state excise tax, and Medical Marijuana patients with a doctor’s recommendation will be charged 15% state excise tax and 7.75% sales tax.

Q: What are the new restrictions on edibles?

A: Edibles are now limited to 100mg of THC in each 10-serving package. Cannabis products can also no longer be made in the shape of a human being, animal, insect, or fruit.

Q: Where can I consume cannabis?
1. In your private home, or the private outdoor area of your home (i.e. your fenced yard)
2. Within the private areas of the home of any adult who permits it (including private fenced yard)You can technically smoke any marijuana (medical or recreational) exclusively in private homes and spaces in San Diego.
3. There are some exceptions for rental properties , which have the right to ban smoking (of any kind) on rental property. But, if no such ban exists for the property, you should be able to smoke within the unit you occupy.

Using cannabis in public is illegal. Fines can be from $100 to $250.

Q: Can I fly or drive with cannabis?

A: As of November 9, 2016, the fine for driving with an OPEN cannabis “container” is up to $250. After January 1, all cannabis products will be packaged in child resistant bags before exiting the dispensary and should remain concealed while in transportation. Driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal as well as transporting cannabis across state lines. (Sorry tourists, you must smoke your stash before heading home.)

Q: Does that mean I can buy marijuana without worrying that my employer will fire me if I consume it?

A: Not necessarily. Employers can fire you if you test positive during a drug test. And landlords do not have to allow you to use marijuana on their properties. Those two provisions were included in Proposition 64, largely to increase its likelihood of passing.

Q: Will police search me if my car smells like marijuana?

A: Thanks to new regulations police can no longer use the smell of marijuana or the presence of cannabis products as a legal reason to detain or search you, your vehicle, or your place.

Q: Can I buy a water pipe from a dispensary?

A: Not anymore – After January 1, Businesses that sell alcohol or tobacco cannot sell marijuana, or vice versa.

Q: How will a consumer know whether the marijuana they buy from January 1st on is free of harmful pesticides?

A: The only way to ensure that the product is safe to consume is to purchase from a legal and licensed dispensary.

Q: Can I use a credit card to buy pot?
Yes, Mankind accepts credit cards along with a few other legal dispensaries.

*This is not meant to be legal or medical advice, please seek the guidance of an attorney or physician in accordance with cannabis laws and regulations.

MEET CATHY BLISS

cathy1-1

Meet Cathy Bliss of Mankind Cooperative in Mira Mesa

We are so proud of our own Cathy Bliss who was recently featured in SD Voyager Magazine. Read the awesome full story feature by clicking the link at the bottom of the page. Congratulations Cathy! We love you!

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cathy Bliss.

Cathy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was a competitive Ice-skater and then my partner and I joined Ice Follies and toured for five years in the US Canada, Mexico and even Taiwan. We did TV shows, movies, commercials.

Over the years, I have been the Marketing Director for some great projects including Meadowlark Health Center, Dreamweavers Art Gallery and Lakeview Estates.

As a rep for Reading’s Fun, I built a very successful business servicing San Diego schools and businesses with books at huge discounts and raised over a million dollars for charities.

Due to personal health challenges, I became interested in Holistic Health and 12 years ago became a Certified Biofeedback Specialist.

10 years ago, my son James Schmachtenberger said “We should look at medical marijuana as it can help many people.” And that began this journey. James and my husband Bill and I opened a medical marijuana business and joined ASA and Norml and other groups and have been learning and sharing and fighting for Safe Access for Patients. James was the Executive Producer for a Documentary Medical Cannabis and its Impact on Human Health which can be seen for free http://marijuanamovie.org/.

James is one of the owners of Mankind Cooperative, a legally zoned and licensed Dispensary in San Diego. In February 2017 he asked me to become the Marketing Director for Mankind Cooperative.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Medical Marijuana has faced so many challenges and mis-information. We are thankful to San Diego City Council for passing ordinances and zoning to allow access to this medicine which is helping patients alleviate seizures, symptoms of MS, PTSD, anxiety, and so much more.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mankind Cooperative – what should we know?
Mankind is a Medical Cannabis Dispensary that has been helping patients to learn about so many ways to use this plant such as vaporizing, edibles, tinctures, salves, etc.

Patients appreciate having knowledgeable, friendly staff, a clean safe beautiful environment, convenient location, free parking and we are open all the hours to are allowable which is 7am -9pm every day. We get so many comments on social media about people feeling that they can take their time, explore, ask questions, get knowledgeable answers, enjoy many special Patient Education Events and get in and out in a timely manner.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I love to share brilliant lessons and saying from many of my mentors. Curly Smith was a millionaire Real Estate Developer and he said ‘Find 100%ers and keep them with you. You can train people to do the job, but the loyalty and caring and showing up and being 100%er is rare.’ My sons own that principle and have kept 100%ers with them thru many businesses.

Evarts Loomis MD was the ‘Father of Holistic Health’ and Founder of Meadowlark Health Retreat. He wrote a book with Dr Sig Paulson called ‘Medicine for the Whole Person’ and he valued all parts of the person and was open to all therapies including nutrition and herbs and walking in nature and meditation. I value being open-minded and willing to look at all possibilities for health and happiness.

Weed The People – A Cannabis Documentary

Medical Marijuana Matters

AdobeStock_194671288-1024x731

Cancer sucks. We all know it. It destroys lives and the families of those who fall victim to it. The drugs so commonly used to treat this terrible disease, including chemo and radiation, are often just as brutal in their side effects as the disease itself. The success rate of chemo and radiation? Well that is dependent on who you listen to (or believe) and the type of cancer. There is a better solution however. Medical marijuana.

Medical Marijuana – The Cure?

So if medical cannabis is the miracle cure for cancer, and so many other dire diseases, why isn’t it more widely accepted and prescribed. Well again this is dependent on who you listen to and believe.

Cannabis can’t truly be tested in lab to verify it’s efficacy. Why not? Because the DEA and Federal Government still have it classified as a Schedule 1 drug (see a full list HERE) which also means it cannot be tested in a lab to determine it’s clinical benefits. Yet across the world people are seeing real medical benefits.

Luckily for us the topic of cannabis in the United States has turned much more positive in recent years, with a new bill in the House, H.R. 420 (more on that HERE) to treat cannabis like alcohol and decriminalize it across the country.

Even with recreational use finding legal footing in multiple states there are still those that would benefit from it’s medical use. Yet it’s full benefits may not ever be found if it is not able to be tested in labs to determine it’s full range of benefits. How then can we raise understanding of this important topic? Enter the magnificent world of the documentary, Weed The People.

Weed The People – A Healing Revolution

weed-the-people-documentary

Weed The People takes an honest look at the impact medical marijuana has had on the lives of families ravaged by the trials of cancer, including childhood cancer. It asks honest questions about why legislation still exists preventing the legalization of such a powerful aid in the battle against this horrible disease. By following families who are using medical cannabis to aid in their fight against cancer we get to experience real life triumphs and hear thoughts from medical doctors on the benefits of cannabis as a life changing cancer treatment.

It doesn’t matter if you are a long term cannabis connoisseur, or an on the fence doubter, this is a documentary everyone needs to witness. It is just that important.

Cannabis, Sex, and V-Day w/ Ashley Manta the CannaSexual

Ain’t Nothing But A Kind Thing

Who feels anxious about Valentine’s Day? Perhaps a better question is who doesn’t feel anxious about Valentines Day? We can all use a little help relaxing and getting int he mood. Here are some ways to get out of your head and into your body using cannabis on February 14, 2019.

Here we are. It’s that time of year again. Just before Valentine’s Day and the pressure is on. The temperature is climbing and some of us are starting to feel anxious or stressed. You want your partner to know you care, but it can be stressful feeling like you have to buy them a multitude of items. Your intentions are good but the follow through feels overwhelming. Pause. This article is for you. Keep going, You got this.

I can relate to these feelings. Luckily I’ve been able to churn my feelings of anxiety surrounding the  holiday into excitement. With a little cannabinoid assistance I’ve discovered a few helpful methods to infuse into your Valentine’s Day and surprise your partner. Let’s start with a few questions to get the ideas flowing.

Back To The Beginning

Let’s start with a couple quick, but important questions, to lay the groundwork. First, how did you fall in love with each other? Next, what are your partners day to day responsibilities? How stressed are they at the end of the day and what helps them to relax?

Now think about how you could support them in getting to a connective head space? Finally, and this is critical, what are your partners needs as far as consumption? Remember we want to make mindful decisions about what you’re choosing to consume, especially when it comes to being intimate. Remember that this isn’t about getting stoned for Valentine’s Day. This is about tailoring your cannabis consumption to meet your individual needs and be able to take the anxiety and stress out of the day.

Let Them Rub You Down

ashley-article-pic-2-1024x959

If your partner carries their stress in their shoulders then I would suggest applying a small amount of the Papa & Barkely 3:1 THC:CBD Relief Balm. Rub it into your partners back and complement it with regular massage oil. This is a nice way to surprise your partner with a very relaxing, sensual massage.

An option that has been growing in popularity and offers immense relief from lower back pain and/or cramps, are the CBD Alive 1:1 Suppositories. They work wonders for easing tension and making sensual experiences more relaxing overall. If you’re feeling adventurous it will also heighten your sexual experiences by reducing discomfort and allowing you to become truly present in the experience.

One of the nicest things you can do for a partner and/or yourself is draw a hot bath and Kush Queen offers a great bath bomb called RELAX. Allow them to soak for at least 30 minutes by themselves while you perform helpful tasks around the house or prepare a nice dinner. Always remember to ask before doing so, but it’s also nice to join your partner in the bath or in the bathroom if they are open to it. This is a great time to offer a nice neck rub with the Papa & Barkley balm mentioned above.

Food For Thought

ashley-article-pic-1-1024x768

Typically I don’t recommend edibles for sex because it can take up to two hours for them to kick in and it’s a time commitment. Think of edibles as an extended release option. However, chocolate is a  staple of any Valentine’s Day celebration and these two edible options are absolutely phenomenal. Both are low dose options for those who just want to add a little something special to their evening.

Micro dose enthusiasts will love the 3mg cannabis-infused chocolate covered strawberries option from Satori. I suggest eating 1-2 of them before dinner (based on your experience), and allow 90 – 120 minutes to pass before consuming any additional. I know they’re delicious but trust me, stick to the motto “start low and go slow“. They offer a delicious strawberry jelly-like center covered in yummy milk chocolate.

If you think of yourself or your partner as a chocolate snob, and you like puzzles, this is the perfect chocolate for you: the Kiva Blackberry Dark Chocolate bar. At 5mg per square piece, you could even start with half if you find that you’re sensitive to edibles. This decadent chocolate bar is a smooth journey of cocoa and berry with no lingering herbal flavors. Again, do not fall into the trap of continuing to eat them due to how scrumptious they are. You may want to have a small box of non-medicated chocolates nearby for comfort snacking if you get a craving for more Kiva. ** CANNASEXUAL TIP ** One way to create a more sensual experience is to place two doses on a platter and serve them to each other. It helps to set the mood a little deeper.

No matter what your experience level you’ll want to set aside time if you’re going to use edibles. Also, understand that this is going to be your evening, (unless you’re a trained professional). **Warning for folks who are edible novices, be sure to test drive the edible you are choosing to celebrate with before the night you use it. While some find edibles heighten sexual experiences, others find that edibles put them in a deep state of relaxation making it harder to fully enjoy themselves.**

Flowers, Always A Classic

cannasexual-valentines-article-marijuana-1024x768

If you don’t have the time commitment for edibles but you’re still looking for precision dosing, you may want to consider the arouse Dosist vape pens. Aside from the sleek pen design, this all in one, (battery + cartridge), offers a unique buzz when one dose has been consumed. (This is also known as metered dosing.) Although the arouse pen doesn’t exactly stimulate arousal, it does provide some uplifting effects that could put you in a better head space for arousal.

Not into sugar right now but nursing a sweet tooth? Winberry Farms Guava OG vape pen is the perfect choice. Friendly word of warning from your Mankind staff though, tt tastes like a little candy heart. That being said I know you’ll want to keep puffing, but please be mindful of practicing moderation. Remember, this experience is meant to be memorable and full of intentional cannabis use.

Finally for the canna purists out there, it wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without flowers. I tried three strains by three different growers just for you. To start the night off I would recommend starting with Create by Canndescent. It’s a very uplifting cerebral high and offers a heavier body high.

For after dinner when you’re ready to set the mood I recommend a little Moltov Cocktail by Korova. It’s a smooth, sweet, flower with an intoxicating smell full of terpenes. It offers a heavy body high to help relax the mind and clear head noise while also helping you sink into your body. It’s great for people who often experience chronic pain. As always, a little bit goes a long way and this strain is a little bit of a creeper. **More Experienced Canna Lover** If you’re going for out of this world experiences, add a pinch of Nasha’s Sunset Sherbert Hash Temple Ball. This is for the people who want a more energetically charged high and experience. First introduced to me by Dank Dank Dutchess hash, it can be a great option for a more sacred, metaphysical, experience.

At the very end of the night when you’re ready for cuddles and getting cozy in bed, Korova Gelato Preroll offers a quick head high and a body groove. This is exceptional for putting on some jazz, or smooth R&B (preferably 90’s if you’re me), and grinding in bed. It isn’t too harsh on your throat, for a preroll it is an extremely smooth smoke. A perfect option to chill at the end of the night.

Share your experience with these or any other of your favorite products available at Mankind Dispensary to enhance your Valentine’s Day.
